Cookie Policy
Ukrainian Business in Finland (UBF) — ubf.fi | Effective date: 27 July 2026
This document is maintained in English. It is the binding version.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) ubf.fi ("the Portal") uses, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. This policy is issued by Suomen ukrainalaisten yrittäjien yhdistys ry (Business ID 3622781-3).
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies let a site recognize your device on return visits, keep you signed in, remember preferences, and — where enabled — measure traffic or show relevant advertising. Some cookies ("first-party") are set by the Portal itself; others ("third-party") are set by services we embed, such as advertising or analytics providers.
2. Categories of cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies (always active)
These cookies are required for the Portal to function — in particular, to keep you securely signed in — and cannot be switched off. Under GDPR/ePrivacy rules, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent, but we disclose them here for transparency.
__session — set when you log into a Company or Superadmin account. Contains a cryptographically signed Firebase session token used to verify your identity on each request. Not used for tracking or advertising. HttpOnly (not readable by page scripts). Expires after a limited session period and is cleared on logout or expiry.
Firebase Authentication may also use local browser storage (not a cookie in the strict sense) to manage the underlying login session on the client side.
2.2 Functional cookies
Used to remember your preferences (for example, language or filter selections in the directory) to improve usability. Where these are not strictly necessary, they are only set with your consent.
2.3 Analytics cookies
Help us understand how visitors use the Portal — which pages are viewed, how the directory search is used, and overall traffic patterns — so we can improve the site. These are only set with your consent and may be provided by third parties (for example, Google Analytics or a similar analytics service, where enabled).
2.4 Advertising and marketing cookies
The Portal may display advertising — including banners, side placements, and pop-ups — served through Google Ads and/or other third-party advertising networks or ad-management platforms. These cookies may be used to:
serve and rotate advertisements shown on the Portal;
measure ad performance and prevent showing the same ad too often;
build an advertising profile based on your visit, in some cases combined with data from other sites you have visited, where the advertising network operates in that way;
share limited data (such as browsing/interaction data linked to a cookie or device identifier) with the relevant ad network, ad-management platform, or marketing/analytics agency we work with, strictly for advertising and campaign-measurement purposes.
Advertising and marketing cookies are only set with your prior consent, given through the cookie banner described in Section 4. If you do not consent, you will not see personalized ads or be tracked for advertising purposes, though the Portal may still show generic, non-personalized placements where technically possible.
âš [PLACEHOLDER: Once specific ad/analytics vendors are selected and integrated (e.g. Google Ads, Google Ad Manager, a named analytics tool, or a named marketing agency), list each vendor by name here, along with a link to that vendor's own privacy policy, as GDPR/ePrivacy transparency requires naming each third party that sets cookies.]
3. Why we need these cookies
To let you securely log in and stay logged in to your Company or Superadmin account (strictly necessary).
To keep the Portal, member accounts, and administrative functions secure.
To understand how the public site and directory are used, so we can improve navigation and content (with consent).
To fund and support UBF's activities through advertising placements, and to make any advertising shown more relevant, where you consent.
To support integrations with third-party tools UBF may use for marketing, communications, or campaign management, where you consent.
4. Managing your cookie preferences
Where the Portal implements a cookie consent banner, you will be asked to accept or reject non-essential cookies (functional, analytics, and advertising) on your first visit, and you will be able to change your choice at any time via a "Cookie preferences" link/control on the site. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled, as the Portal (in particular login) cannot function without them.
You can also control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings — most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies from specific or all sites. Blocking all cookies will prevent you from logging into a Company or Superadmin account. For guidance, consult your browser's help documentation (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.).
âš [PLACEHOLDER: A cookie consent banner/management tool implementing the choices above should be added to the site if advertising, analytics, or other non-essential cookies are enabled, to remain compliant with GDPR and the EU ePrivacy rules (consent must be obtained before non-essential cookies are set, not just disclosed after the fact).]
5. How long cookies last
Session cookies (like __session) are deleted when you log out or when the session expires.
Persistent cookies (e.g. some analytics or advertising cookies) remain on your device for a set period (commonly ranging from 30 days up to 2 years, depending on the provider) or until you delete them.
6. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as the Portal's use of cookies changes, for example when new analytics or advertising integrations are added. The effective date above reflects the latest version.
